Internet Explorer is now 15 years Old. On 16th August 1995 the very first version of the popular web browser, Internet Explorer 1, was launched. Microsoft Internet Explorer MSIE or just IE has been one of the most widely used web browser in the world. It topped its users back in 2002-2003 to 95% after the death of Netscape Navigator (another popular web browser).
Microsoft Internet Explorer is the most widely used Web Browser, being still in use with 60% population. The biggest plus point for MSIE has been its free download and free distribution with Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Initially Internet Explorer was a reworked version of Spyglass Mosaic
Internet Explorer 1 was launched on 16th August 1995 with Microsoft Plus for Windows 95. It was not part of the Operating System at that time but was released as a separate entity.
Internet Explorer 2 was launched for Windows 95 on November 22, 1995 while Internet Explorer 3 was released on August 13, 1996, and went on to be much more popular than its predecessors.
Internet Explorer 4 was released in September 1997, Internet Explorer 5 on March 18, 1999 for Microsoft Windows 98, Internet Explorer 6 on August 27, 2001 just before the release of Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 7 was released on October 18, 2006 while Internet Explorer 8 was released on March 19, 2009.
According to Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 is currently in development and will be launched soon.
The current users of Internet Explorer are round about 60% because of the great competition from open source Mozilla Firefox as well as Google Chrome.
